New Mexico's Lucky Ten

I had to let everyone know that the University of New Mexico's creative writing M.F.A. program has been off and running--by the looks of it-- for at least one year. The sad news is that they admit only ten writers each fall. What are the odds? It's a sleeper program if I've ever heard of one. Good luck to the many who will apply! Here is the website:http://www.unm.edu/~english/CreativeWriting/Academics/MFA.htm Happy trails in the southwest.

New Mexico's one of the programs I've been eyeing. Has it really only been offered for a year?

if you read the program's FAQ, it states that M.F.A. applicants should go ahead and apply for fall 2006. they are graduating their last M.A. students before then.

i've also heard that one of my fellow contributors has been spotted in Iowa City with what looks like a faux mohawk. can anyone confirm?

I looked at New Mexico last year and didn't apply at the last minute (lack of funds, time, energy), but I was *very* impressed with the friendliness and level of personal attention I got from the administration. The program gives good vibes. Plus, it's in Albuquerque, for goodness' sake.

I've had Dan Mueller (who teaches at UNM in the MFA) as a teacher before, and he's wonderful.

I have been accepted into the UNM MFA program for Fall 2008. I studied with Greg Martin at the Taos Writers Conference in 2005 and 2007. I can highly recommend the conference (high on education low on schmoozing and selling)and if the rest of the professors are like Greg, I'll be in heaven.
