Jess Miele, MFA Blog Contributor

Jess Miele will be begin her first year at UMASS Amherst fiction writing program. She would like to contribute to the MFA Blog in any way possible.

She is currently working on a novel entitled "The Angel and The Mime," though that name has changed several times. Her short story "All the Pretty Girls in New York" was published in the Oregon Literary Review, which you can read for your viewing pleasure at this address: http://orelitrev.startlogic.com/v3n1/OLR-miele.htm

Jess Miele is passionate about not only discussing the art of writing, but also the art of reading. She loves discussing literary magazines and finds comfort when other people have stumbled upon the same short story. One of her current favorite literary online magazines to date is Narrative at http://narrativemagazine.com/

Lately it seems this blog has focused more on itself and its contributors than its purpose and intent. I hope we'll see more MFA-related posts in the future. Thanks.

Welcome, Jess. Looking forward to hearing more from you. Let us know how you do in the coming year. I'm heading into my second now, and I have to say that the first was full of surprises. So much of the MFA experience is not at all what one might expect--particularly if, like me, you're not a veteran workshopper [starting to feel like one now ;) ] And on the other hand, so much of the experience is more challenging and rewarding than I imagined it might be.

Good luck.

Hello there...I'm about to start my first year in a program, too. (Sounds like rehab when I put it that way.)

Best of luck and I look forward to your hearing your thoughts as the year moves on.
