Where to begin? ? ?

I dont plan on applying to a program for another year and a half or so, but want to start deciding what school would be right for me.what sort of questions should I be asking myself when looking at mfa programs.

**i would start by purchasing The Creative Writing M.F.A. handbook by Tom Kealey. it shamelessly lists all the M.F.A. programs (with the exception of Vanderbilt U).

**you should also do a personal assessment of what you hope to gain from a C.W. M.F.A. Make sure that it is the advanced degree that you really want or, more importantly, need. Do not confuse it with an M.A. or a Phd. Each degree accomplishes different things, which can take you down separate paths after earning a certain one.

**The rests of it is secondary: geography, funding, whether or not the program is two or more years, etc. . .
