Does anyone know anything more about this program? i.e. how are the classes, is the funding any good, does it look like it might be up there in terms of "kealey ranking"?
I'm quite interested because of the location, and any info would be greatly appreciated.
I kept thinking that Boston, Massachusetts had more than just Emerson and Boston University for creative writing. If you read carefully, admission to this program is tough--a constant situation among many well established programs is keeping admission between 10 to 15 students. This is done deliberately! This program is very new.
I am in the program and I can tell you personally it is not any tougher than any other school to get into. If anything, because it is so new and not many people are familiar with it (it's not listed in many of the grad school websites...but I assume that will change sometime this year), there would be less competition than you would normally be up against at one of the more established programs. That being said, it's not a cakewalk either. The program is still looking for serious writers who will each bring something distinct to the program.
How do you like the program? Do you get enough face time with professors? Do you like the other students? How's the funding? etc.
I would love to go to school in Boston but can't stomach the terrible funding situation at Emerson, or the fact that BU is only a year, but I've heard so little about UMASS Boston that I'm hesitant about it...
