Both Fort De Soto and Caladesi are within 20 miles of USF Tampa and much closer to USF's St. Pete campus and both were ranked #1 by Dr. Beach as the best in the whole country--including beating out the Atlantic coast and Hawaii.
Although USF is in the so-called "infamous" conservative areas, USF & its students are truly diverse in politics & cultures. The campus is near both Riverfront Park & Lettuce Lake Park & really not that far from beaches, art museums, Ybor City, and so forth. For example, Busch Gardens is visible from USF library windows! Those who don't mind a drive can also easily drive to New Orleans or Key West for spring break without spending their entire break driving. Better still, if you're a creative writer, the English Department is chaired by a poet.
