I received my Indiana poetry rejection today through the mail (well, I am at work; my girlfriend received it. Also, got an email waitlist from NYU yesterday.
Just waiting on Columbia and FSU, but what I'm really holding out for is funding from U of Washington or getting into UIUC off the waitlist, because my partner is in at both of those programs. Still holding out hope for a TA position at UMASS (gf told me that they have given some of those to PhD's at Amherst via thegradcafe). Of course, I would love to go to UMASS, but would love UIUC or UW more, because moving with the GF is #1. UGH this is like a game of Battleship.
I used to cheat on Battleship. Every position my opponent called, I pegged it. Every position I called, I pegged it. This way, I could move my ships around the pegs during the game.
the only thing you might need a car for is grocery shopping, but there are also buses that go pretty frequently to the local meijer, so even that isn't essential. ann arbor is very walkable.
i lived in the dorms for two years and then in the same house near campus for two years, so i can't speak very intelligently about neighborhoods in terms of where to live. kerrytown on the north side of central campus is nice, but this late in the year i'm not sure what the availability is like - students tend to start snatching up leases in the winter. i would just try to find the best available balance between price / proximity to campus.
@Wee Meathead - I never owned a car during my four years at Ann Arbor. This meant that I never got out of town. Didn't bother me. My first year, I lived in South Quad dorm. Years 2-4, I lived in a house off Washtenaw. Very pleasant neighborhoods. Quiet. Nice short walk to campus.
@ Woon and Mike Thanks! we'll do our best. I saw a house ad on craigslist that promised a special "stairway made for cats," so pretty excited about that one, obv.
@Wee Meathead - the neighborhoods on South University past Washtenaw have nice houses with rooms for rent. Don't know the availability or price now. I remember UM had grad housing in the North Campus -- they called them Little China or Little Seoul at the time -- and if you're looking for absolute peace and quiet, you can't beat the North Campus. Free bus to central campus, which is where Angell Hall is located.
Congrats Sarah on making your decision! I think everything is easier from here on out....or maybe not. haha
Fiction/ASU Courtney! CONGRATS!Drop me a line at nairakuz {at} gmail {.com} if you wanna chat! If I remember correctly, you've gotten some other great offers so this is going to be a tough choice for you too! Maybe we can help each other out!
Also, I know there are quite a few ASU alums/undergrads in here. If you've got a few seconds, please get in touch if you've got some thoughts on Tempe that you're DYING to share!
I received official rejections from University of Arizona and Colorado State via mail yesterday. Looks like I'm applying again next year; I've been rejected to all other schools (still waiting to hear from Oregon and San Diego State). Good luck, everyone.
hey, i can't remember if it was here or at DH, but someone posted a note that no word from Notre Dame could mean waitlist - they had called to check status and that's the news they go. i just called them and i was also informed i was on the waitlist (and also informed that despite being 'pretty high up there on the list' that the list was long enough that she wasn't going to count it for me, there are 5 spots for prose, and i should probably go ahead and accept the best offer i've gotten). she ALSO said she put the waitlist notices in the mail yesterday, so i wouldn't necessarily recommend slamming them with phone calls - notice should be on the way.
also finally got my indiana rejection letter. holla!
Well, I've received replies from all my schools. I'm sitting on three acceptances and three waitlists. I have no assured funding as of yet, but funding looks promising at a couple places. The thing for me is, a family health issue has come up (in the midst of MFA craziness!) so I'm thinking the best thing for me might be to defer for one year. When it comes to prioritizing, family is more important than grad school. This is the main reason I turned down Alaska -- it's too far from Florida, where my mom is ill. I'll be weighing funding offers, location, and the possibility of deferment and hopefully I can have a decision made by early April. But who knows!?!
also called florida and was told to check my application status online - got as far as the 'Return to Check Status/Update/Add New Recommendation' button and then it says i can 'review/print' my application (or pay the app fee again...no thanks) - but i can't figure out where the app status is. anyone?
@klairkwilty - maybe you're on the waitlist? All these schools have exhibited varying degrees of incompetence re. communication with applicants. You'd think with ND's resources, they'd have a supercharged bells-n-whistles online notification system.
I'd think that might be a sign of the waitlist, too, if they're snailmailin' WL notifications like ann says. Doesn't explain the email you received, though.
I hear Notre Dame admits are personally notified by the Touchdown Jesus.
@Dry Leaves, I'm so sorry about your mom. Family definitely comes first; I would do the same as you were I in your position. All my best wishes for your mom's health.
Yes, it's either UF or UVA. I'm going to wait it out. I would be thrilled to go to either of these programs. And I think I know who you're rooting for...
Why are you assuming rejection from University of Washington? I've only heard of acceptances in poetry and nonfiction; I haven't heard anything about fiction applicants.
I emailed them last week (my online status said my application was incomplete, so I contacted them-my application is fine) and they said they would be contacting people over the next three weeks, so that means we still have two more weeks.
That said, I'm anxious, too. A lot of stuff is happening at our house that is not graduate school related. It would be nice to be able to plan for next fall without having to do everything all at once. But I'm not writing off an acceptance just yet.
@J. Haley - YES I SCROLLED ALL THE WAY DOWN! I'M LOSING IT! The very bottom thing is "Writing Sample Received" and under that are links that say "Technical Support" "Update Profile" and "Logout."
@Emma - actually, it may not matter in the end. Your decision may not have any effect on me because I don't know where I stand in the grand waitlist scheme of things.
UNCG has a history of a long drawn-out process, which in the past, appears to have had to deal with getting funding squared away for everyone. So it could mean that's what's happening.
Or, it could mean they sent out more GNEs than they have spots, I suppose.
The GNE asked if had questions and I responded with a couple and haven't heard back on that...which I understand as they are busy, but still kinda weird, you know...
I didn't apply to any of the North Carolina schools because I grew up in NC (during teen years). I even took some summer classes at UNC-Chapel Hill. One of my classmates in my sociology class was, at the time, one of the Playboy Girls of the ACC. It's hard to concentrate when all I could think of was her nekkid body. Oh, god. Where was I?
Oh, yeah, been there, done that re. NC. No desire to go to Greensboro or Wilmington. NC is still nice though.
I'm in poetry, and the first acceptance was quite a while ago. That said, the last time I talked to the dept., which was maybe almost two weeks ago, they said they weren't nearly finished. Still, they only accept so many poets... I'm just trying to be realistic about how long I can hold out hope.
did you (or anyone else) ask questions and get a response? I feel like a little kid asking all of this, but I gotta tell my wife something when she gets home...
@Lucas - re. "gotta tell my wife something when she gets home..." ROFL! This reminds of a GRE word I studied via flashcards: UXORIOUS. Never forgot it. Unfortunately, it never showed up on the exam.
Haha, I understand. There was a discussion a few weeks ago. A few of us got an initial response with a promise for further information, but that never came through. Really not sure what's going on.
congratulations on (basically) deciding. you've probably said this before, but would you mind reminding me if you are poetry or fiction? i am hoping for a ta-ship at montana.
haha. Yeah...I was really just saying that...it's me that wants to know. She'll be all like "I'm sure you will still get in" and I'll be like "KNOCK ON WOOD, WOMAN!"...and then she'll be like "Don't call me 'woman'!" and I'll be like "sorry, boss."
I forgot who kindly congratulated and also posed the question to me about San Fran State (sorry I'm lost in the comments here!) but no, I did not apply for any special type of funding or scholarship, they just offered that I was applicable for a Provost's Scholarship which would reduce everything to in-state costs and that if I would go to San Fran State if offered the scholarship, please let them know immediately.
ALSO, they just called me to notify that I was in. Awkwardly I said, "Oh, oh yes, thank you! I was actually already notified via email? In regards to funding?" They were incredibly nice and said that I had until April 15th or even beyond to tell them if I was going--which I was confused by because for the funding they wanted me to tell them immediately.
But they were super nice, and seem to be calling acceptances as we speak, without funding info. They emailed me a week and a half ago with an acceptance WITH funding.
That brings my total to:
Accepted w. funding SFSU
Waitlisted NYU Brooklyn
in Fiction. And I'm thinking I won't dignify my rejections with a mention...hehe.
The Stegner denial email is nicely written. Good work Stanford! High-fives!
Here's a snippet for the curious:
"Thank you so much for your application for a Stegner Fellowship. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer you a place in the program. However, we wanted to let you know that your application was read with great care and appreciation. It is through the vibrancy and commitment of work like yours that the program is able to depend on an applicant pool of immense talent. Every year, after reading the submissions, all of us wish we had more fellowships to offer."
Didn't someone on here say that Florida would be updating online admission statuses today? I don't see any changes. Bah!!!
I am having a crazy day. I'm in at three schools (GMU, Idaho, and Temple), but I don't have a single funding offer. I do, however, have a second interview with Teach for America next week, but I reeeeaaaally don't want to put my writing on the back burner any longer.
@hilary- I'm already in line for the film adaptation starring Andie Macdowell and Sean Patrick Flanery, though I know it'll never be as good as the book.
Received rejections via mail this morning from Univ of Arizona and CCA. The CCA letter was particularly obnoxious with something along the lines of "more experience and training will make you a more attractive candidate." Um, hello? I've been a full-time journalist for five years now. It's not like I just crawled out of a bar and decided to start writing. Anyway, my results so far:
Accepted Otis College (with funding) The New School (with funding)
Rejected Univ Arizona CCA Univ Oregon (assumed) Portland (assumed)
@Wee Meathead Congrats on Michigan! I applied to their fiction program as well and didn't get in. :]
@phillywriter I hope you are on the waiting list - sometimes no news is good news.
@Gena I wonder how many people have taken acceptances at their program already? Robin Behn did say the waiting list was "small" in her email but "small" is relative?!
@ gena and/or laura and/or any other florida applicant - if you do check yr status, can you tell me if you actually manage to FIND your status, and where?
I've checked the Florida application status and it doesn't say anything about my status. There is this though: "If you have questions regarding your graduate application status or admission decision, please contact your department directly."
So are they gonna put the decision on the status page???
@ daniel: word. that's what i saw too. ostensibly yes, they will put the status on that page. somewhere. but i guess not today. and the woman who answered the phone was a) not enthused and b) deferred to the website, so i wouldn't recommend calling.
Ali - I got into UNO for Fiction. They have yet to allocate the assistantships. I found out via email yesterday and coincidentally recieved their official letter today.
I called pittsburgh today to see what the deal was, and the woman on the phone told me that all of their letters went out yesterday. so anyone waiting on them should hear soon!
has anyone been rejected from fsu or vtech? I received an e-mail from fsu a few months ago saying that all automatic yes/no decisions would be finalized by mid-march. hi mid-march! you're here! someone should let fsu know...
I'm so sorry to hear about your Mom. I 100% believe being with your family and deferring for a year is the right decision. I hope everything works out for you in the very best way possible.
I'm also sitting with 3 acceptances, 2 waitlists and waiting to hear from 4 schools, but I think that regardless of what the schools I'm waiting on say, aside from an outrageous funding offer, I'll be at Sarah Lawrence next year. It just seems like the right program for me at this time.
Post when you know how things are going to shake out.
I'm still waiting on ASU fiction. Still "in review" on my applicant account... which I was hoping was good news, but I've heard of a few acceptances now and I'm still in limbo. I emailed Karla Elling today but haven't heard back. I'm pessimistic, but still hoping (pathetically)!!
@ UNCG GNE people
I think it's clear they sent out more GNE's than spots they have. Given, some of those admitted will go elsewhere, so maybe it'll work out....? If it makes you feel any better, I didn't get a GNE, and I'm still hoping for UNCG. (Why? B/c I didn't get the UNCW GNE and then got on the waitlist AFTER a GNE-recipient got rejected. WHICH is pretty messed up, but I pledged I wouldn't talk crap about GNE's anymore, so....)
Sorry to be Debbie Downer today. March moodiness is at a new peak. Congrats to all the acceptances though! Hooooray (sigh)
I found out I was on the waitlist by breaking down and calling them about a week and a half ago. the woman seemed mildly irritated until I told her I was in poetry, and then she was like "oh! I have that list!" and told me the deal. I think they're going to call waitlisters as spots open up, so as not to give people false hope?
I also have absolutely no idea how to check my app status there. do you log in to the appyourself page, or is there some other page somewhere?
I haven't had the chance to catch up on the blog happenings for the past day. But I wanted to let y'alls know that kind, wonderful Lucie Brock-Broido just called. I'm in for poetry at Columbia.
I'm going to need some time to gather my thoughts before I say anything further about this. You all know why. Loving Columbia is a very, very difficult kind of love.
@@Ratliff - Touchdown Jesus called. He said I'm not a "real" Cataholic. I said, "But I love cats." He said, "Shut the fuck up when I'm talking at you."
@ann-- I don't want to mess with UFL ids, Gatorlinks, etc. I'll wait for the rejection like a good, upstanding, early 20th century postal-person. Call me curmudgeon.
@Hobbledehoy-- I asked, they said they couldn't give me any exacts on the length of the waitlist and implied that they hadn't heard back from their fiction admits yet. Though this was last week... people may have since decided to attend. Did your letter have a placement-adjective? Such as "you are 'very high' on a small waitlist"?
@ Those who responded re: My mom's health & possible deferment. Thank you for your kind words and understanding. I don't like to make chat-room smiley faces but I will make an exception in this case --> :)
Update for those of us/you who (like me) have yet to hear anything at all from HOLLINS:
I emailed them yesterday saying something along the lines of "Hey, I'm really sorry to be one of those neurotic MFA applicants, but I heard you began notifying accepted students, and I haven't heard anything positive or negative yet. Shall I assume that silence means I haven't been admitted? Thanks!"
Somebody emailed me back first thing this morning with this response:
"First round acceptances have gone out, but this should not be construed as an automatic rejection. Feel free to stay in touch with me and perhaps we can give you a better sense of things in the coming weeks."
Which I thought was both a timely, kind and generous response. I don't KNOW anything more, but I'm pleased that somebody responded right away, and that the message is: don't lose hope.
Gena, I believe you are a few spots ahead of me because my email said 'high' without the 'very' on their "small waiting list." :] I'm still holding out hope because I was reading through last year's mailbag and read this:
"Blogger Victorya said...
To those waiting on Alabama - They do have a waitlist. The year I got in I waited and waited and freaked out because April came around and I had heard nothing Then I got a voicemail that said they loved my writing and I was told I was #4 on the list. Then 3. Then 2. Then was offered a spot. I have a feeling they really burn through that list because then I turned it down as well so #5 got an offer.
Of course, this year it could be different, but that was what happened to me. So if you don't have a rejection, you have a chance!
Hi Alyssa--no, I was trying to be funny! I just went to my application login, clicked "application status" and cliked on the link that said my decision was ready and then a letter popped up. It wasn't really sent by anyone, per se; it just popped up when I clicked it so I am going to refer to that as a robot letter. A heartless, stamp-less robot letter.
To those of you waiting on Virginia (including me):
"Decisions on admission into the Creative Writing Program will be announced by April 1. Students are expected to respond by April 15...Deny letters will be sent the first week of April 2010."
I found this on their dept. website (http://www.engl.virginia.edu/creativewriting/admissions.shtml). So future UVA hopefuls don't freak out and sit tight, we still have two more weeks!
From v1ctorya's year-old keyboard imprints to God's ears. Tuscaloosa or bust!
Ps, if you (or anyone else thinking about attending Bama) want to rant about Bama waitlist obsessing/attending with me, send me a line at g.scholastica at gmail dot com.
Crap. I set everyone off about this Florida thing. Honestly, I just thought I remembered someone on here saying that they were going to update online statuses today. Maybe I dreamed it? I don't know.
Anyway, I can't figure out where it would be online either. I'm assuming there will eventually be letters posted on the homepage after we log in? I don't know. It's not there today, obviously. I've been checking all day. :(
Oh my God oh my God oh my God oh my God Lucie Brock-Broido just called me and I'm in at Columbia for poetry with a fellowship (though not enough for everything, but still...). I'm almost crying. Oh my God. You don't understand, this woman is my poetry-hero, and I am soooo happy right now I don't even care if I'll be able to afford it. Oh my God.
@Notre Dame applicants - OKAY. The page that ya'll say there's a button to click to view the decision--is that the blue page or the green page? The blue page has the link that says "Application for Admission" in blue. Under that is listed all the application materials (letters of recommendation, transcripts, etc.). Is it that page? Because there's not shit at the bottom of the page.
Finally got my Irvine letter. It was a rejection obviously. It didn't hurt as much as I thought it would. The letter was nice and signed by Ron Carlson, who was the reason why I wanted to go there.
I did, however, get a very fancy acceptance package from CalArts.
You know what's disappointing? When the only school you have been accepted to sends you an admissions packet to a writing program that has grammatical errors in it.

What kind of writing program has grammatical errors in it?
IN AT COLUMBIA!! For fiction, got the voicemail today. Unfortunately, I didn't get off work until five West Coast time and thus, was unable to call back. They said nothing about funding, which is worrisome...
I only applied to UCR because I'm just that much of an idiot. Also, I found myself lacking in funds and motivation to fill out multiple applications this fall.
Apparently if we don't hear word by the end of this week, we could be waiting until April 15th. At least, that's what I was told when I called last week.
@ND - my status hasn't changed and I was told that I was rejected, so I'm assuming they haven't updated some accounts. And boo on them for rejecting Fiction Courtney and Klair :( And me... here's to next year???
@Florida - has anyone else's online page changed but without indicating an admissions decision? Mine went from listing my transcripts to just my contact information. I'm a little confused...
I have been lurking here for several months now, too paranoid to post early in the season. I have read every single comment for the last three or four months, though. I know awhile back, people were looking for blogs to read as distractions.
I wanted to share my blog, which deals with the issues of trying to make it as a writer (both as a novelist, and in Hollywood):
I received an email from the director at UC Riverside inviting me to an open house, to check out the school, meet the students, professors.
But since I hadn't gotten the email/call of acceptance I was a bit puzzled. So I called the director (at least she knew who I was) and she said, "yes, we recommended you to the graduate department you should get the acceptance email either today or tomorrow. So, I guess I'm in:)
I'll post my findings soon. So yeah! I still kick myself for not getting my app into UC Irvine in time, but I really want to stay in Cali so I won't be separated from my 8 year old son.
So far no's from: Iowa, Michigan, UCSD and UCLA (screenwriting). As a side note they got 700 apps this year for 25 spots.
I'm confused. I haven't received any notification from SFSU on whether I have be admitted, but the financial aid office just sent me a financial aid award. What does this mean?
Is anyone else having problems logging in to Notre Dame's application? I have had this problem for months now. I put my pin and my password, it looks like it's about to load, then nothing. I tried different browsers. I tried resetting my password multiple times. Any ideas?
Gads, it's impossible to keep up with the blog. Congrats to Columbia acceptances & good luck with funding. ASU acceptances -- I've been hanging out at Piper Center the past couple of years and can give you the scoop on Tempe.
@ Nicholas & Matt Sumpter --
I'm in for Arkansas at poetry, too. Let's compare notes! I'm at acupunk[nine] at yahoo.
Someone asked about how I received an early response from LSU. I emailed the program and told them I'd heard good news from other programs and was planning a multi-city trip to see which programs would best suit me. I wanted to know if I could include Baton Rouge on this itinerary. They wrote back within a day or two that my sample (CNF) didn't receive a high enough score for the program.
I received my early rejections (and wait lists) pretty quickly this way. I probably won't do the multi-city tour because my grandfather's facing some health challenges. But hey, I had Bob Hicok come out to AZ to meet with ME!
I have a question. Did anybody, accepted or not, recieve an email about financial aid recently. I applied there in fiction, and I got this email today letting me know that "we have received your 2010-2011 FAFSA. Your Financial Aid Award Offer is ready for your review and acceptance on the web. Follow these instructions to access your award offer..."
I went to the website it gave me, saw the fed loans they were offering me, etc. It says I have till April 8 to decline/accept the offer. But WHAT DOES ALL THIS MEAN?
Am I accepted? (I've gotten no acceptance call.) Waitlisted? Just delusional?
I'm guessing I'm delusional, but either way I just wanted to check to see if anyone else got the email. If so, what do you make of it?
I received a phone call admitting me into SF State's MFA Program (fiction) on Wednesday, and a welcoming email late today. I did not receive any financial aid information.
Another Michigan alum chiming in here. Huge cograts on your acceptance. I loved Ann Arbor and it's the only city in the Midwest I would ever consider moving back to. I have been out close to ten years but I lived there after graduation and still go back a couple of times of year.
You can definitely get away without a car. You can get to the Kroger on North Campus by bus or bike easily and the previously mentioned Meijer on the south end of town is also on a bus route. And there are still plenty of little grocery stores around town and the People's Food Co-op and Farmer's Market to get your sustenance. Plus the other usual suspects like Busch's, Whole Food Foods, Trader Joe's, and another unique spot: Arbor Farms Market. The Community Farm is still going too, last I heard.
As a grad student, I would check out Kerrytown, the graduate slums (I lived there and there is some beautiful homes back there; the name is misleading. It sits between the Hospital area and Kerrytown, north of Huron Ave.), and the Westside (the area West of Downtown, it's a 10-15 minute walk to Angell Hall). There are newer places downtown, but they tend to be pricier. If you go to the South University area you'll run into more of the undergrad and greek system scene. But there are plenty of nice places to be found there. And if you are looking for a farm house that's available too. But then you'd need a car. Check out Dixboro in the Northeast, Whitmore Lake to the North or towards Dexter to the Northwest. These options are harder to come by though.
Thin to win! Accepted to U Miami in fiction today by mail (the regular envelope really had me thinking it was a rejection). No word yet on funding.
I was just about ready to give up on getting in to a program this cycle, so this was a great surprise. Best of luck to all those in limbo. Good news is still out there.
Could you tell me what region you're located in? I'm wondering when the letters might have gone out. And ... congrats! Glad Miami has finally gotten things started.
I received the same e-mail today about my own financial aid from SFSU, and I haven't received any kind of acceptance yet. I am just as confused as you.
I guess it's probably just some generic email for people who filled out FAFSA. But I emailed them a couple hours ago, just to be sure. Hopefully they'll get back to me monday or so. I'll let you know when (if) they do.
@ Laura T - I'm really undecided about my plans. It's scary that SLC is supposed to have word by April 12...that's so soon. I finally broke down and called UNCW today to ask where I was on the waitlist, but their answer was kinda 50-50, and then there's the whole question of funding. I think I might call schools Monday morning if I haven't heard back because I'm starting to go insane. Basically, I'm flying out to New York sometime the first week or so in April, but I don't know if I'll make the 7th either (flights before the 7th are a lot more expensive)...so, we'll see.
**If anyone else has thoughts on Sarah Lawrence's program, I'd really love the advice. It's a super hard decision to make because it seems like a great opportunity, but maybe not worth the money? I also worry that it's a bit too, how can I say, "la-dee-da" for me. Ha. We'll see. Are people there cool or pretentious? Ahh!
Losing my mind and resorting to horrible chick flicks interspersed with Tolstoy,
Finally got the Hunter rejection via email last week.
Status for Brooklyn on the website still "under review" - how much was that application fee again? lol
Nada from Queens College...
Interview for a kinda TA at LIU Brooklyn next week, also in at New Mexico State, California College of the Arts says my Financial Aid letter will be coming soon - you think it'll cover the 40,000/yr? *fingers crossed* haha
A friend of mine who applied to the psychology masters also got an email about being accepted for financial aid, but she hasn't been accepted into the program yet. No clue on whether or not this indicates you've been accepted, but just to let you know this is happening to all SFSU students who applied for aid.
I've been lurking on and off, and I'm now looking for insights.
I applied to ASU and I haven't heard anything. I've made a few assumptions from the posts that I've read.
First, the rejection emails went out early this week The folks top on the accept list were called wednesday. This being saturday, I'm most likely on a wait list.
Any faults with that thinking? And how do they notify you that you're on a wait list? I appreciate any insights.
Oh, my God, hilary! I'm so happy for you! No matter what you decide to do, I'm so glad that Columbia recognized your talent and that you got the chance to talk with Lucie -- and that you now have her cellie# in your address book, yo!
@allCongratulations to everyone who has received happy news during the past few days! I especially want to shout out to the Hollinsies & the Houstonses & the TNSkers & GMUs & VTechses & UNCGs & SFStaters & IUs & Marylands to remind y'all to go to the MFA Chronicles @ mfachronicles.blogspot.com. There are current MFAers blogging about their experiences at a lot of the schools that people have recently been accepted to.
Just a thought! I've seen some questions about some of the MFA Chroniclers schools, recently, so I thought a little reminder about the site might help.
So, today I went down to the local PO to send a bunch of fiction manusrcripts the old-fashioned way, hoping that no one applies to the journals that only take snail mail anymore-LOL.
the PO guy is going down the stack, weighing envelopes and slapping postage on them, till he gets to one, looks at it sitting on the scale, and says "this one's not ready yet."
And I'm thinking, wow, the scale can tell the story's shit. Fascinating.
Well, it turns out I had left off part of the address. We remedied that, and I hopped back on my bike to enjoy a beautiful day. (But now it's got me worried....)
By the way, Mike, Woon, and Noisy--great write-ups on A2. Spent some fantastic years there (second half of undergrad and partway to a PHD) and I go back every couple years.
Been lurking around for a relatively short time (glad I didn't discover this blog earlier; I would have had months of unproductivity in work instead of weeks!). Really enjoying reading everyone's stories and learning a lot in the process.
Anyway, I have acceptances in poetry from Vermont College and Sarah Lawrence and have to decide on one of them before the end of the month. It's a tough call, two entirely different kinds of programs. I've heard raves about both places. I've read faculty work from both schools and have been impressed by both. Sarah Lawrence is definitely more expensive, but not by so much that it will be a factor in my decision. I live in New York City, so there would be no additional living costs.
I'm older than probably most on this board - mid 40s - so that's potentially a factor. But I've been assured by Sarah Lawrence that their students are very age diverse, with some accepted students in their mid 50s.
My work situation is part-time and will accommodate either a low or full res situation.
So any thoughts on this decision would be both welcome and appreciated! Thanks.
I'm in the same boat as well -- and as much as I hope Clayton is right, I kinda doubt he is. Have you both checked your ASU applicant account status? I'm still "In Review," as a lot of people were last week... then earlier in the week I couldn't keep track of who was rejected and whose app was still "alive." Some people learned they were rejected by checking their online status, and didn't receive an email.
I emailed Karla Elling yesterday morning to see if she could tell me anything (good OR bad), but got no reply. I don't blame her; I'm sure she's been inundated with applicant craziness these past few weeks.
Anyway, post anything you find out, and I'll do the same, of course!! Oh, and are you both fiction? (I am.) I'm praying Clayton is right!!
Last bit of info/evidence: the rejections (the infamous "ASU REJECT EMAIL") started about 2 weeks ago or so, and continued through earlier this week -- in other words, it wasn't in one big email blast. They were clearly emailing people as they went through the apps and made decisions. So maybe, since we haven't heard yet, they haven't gotten to ours? or just haven't changed our status to rejected? Or we are indeed on their shortlist? (Although my pessimistic [realistic?] tendencies say no... sigh)
Are you fiction or poetry? If you're fiction, I'd just email Sam Lipsyte directly. He's super nice, and answered all my questions about the program. As far as I can tell, the funding situation is pretty bleak. Especially your first year. I was expecting that, and didn't think I'd be very tempted by Columbia, but man, it's COLUMBIA. Email me if you want to talk, buntj544@newschool.edu.
I've checked my MyASU account and it states app is in Review. No snail mail. It seems there are only two possibilities: I'm a reject that fell through the cracks, or I'm not top tier, and they're waiting. I don't think they would have made any offers without having reviewed every application, so we've either been waitlisted, or they are incredibly slow in notifying their acceptances. That doesn't make sense; there should only be a handful of phone calls. Everything points to the waitlist. Anybody know how many fiction students are admitted each season?
Email from Porter Shreve this morning--waitlisted at Purdue! They have a 10 person waitlist--so if you haven't heard, it's not over! (I emailed just to confirm that I was rejected: turns out, I'm not--yet!)
they take five. And they were on Spring Break this week! When I talked to Pete Turchi, it sounded like Karla Elling was out of the office until Monday--don't lose hope!!!
I think it's 5? Some ridiculously small number. I think you're right -- they definitely have notified the acceptances, but unless they have one longgggg waitlist, they may just not have gotten around to updating us on where we stand yet. I agree, everything points to waitlist, except there are already 4 people on this blog in the past... what, the past hour? who are in the same boat. Logic says, therefore, that there are probably many more people out there in our boat too. Maybe they do have a gigantic waitlist? Hey, I'll take that!! AGAIN, I really, really hope you are correct!!

«Oldest ‹Older 1001 – 1200 of 2525 Newer› Newest»I received my Indiana poetry rejection today through the mail (well, I am at work; my girlfriend received it.
UGH this is like a game of Battleship.
re. Battleship.
I used to cheat on Battleship. Every position my opponent called, I pegged it. Every position I called, I pegged it. This way, I could move my ships around the pegs during the game.
@meathead
the only thing you might need a car for is grocery shopping, but there are also buses that go pretty frequently to the local meijer, so even that isn't essential. ann arbor is very walkable.
i lived in the dorms for two years and then in the same house near campus for two years, so i can't speak very intelligently about neighborhoods in terms of where to live. kerrytown on the north side of central campus is nice, but this late in the year i'm not sure what the availability is like - students tend to start snatching up leases in the winter. i would just try to find the best available balance between price / proximity to campus.
@klairkwilty
I did not receive that email from ND, but I checked mine anyway.
Sure enough, I saw what I'd been waiting to see every day for the last three weeks: "Decision Status available beginning 3/19/2010."
@ Woon and Mike
Thanks! we'll do our best.
@klairkwilty
When you get to the home page, scroll to the very bottom. It has added a new button you can click, and a letter will pop up.
Such a bummer. Mine says it too :(
For the record, I've just declined my offer for CNF at Alaska-Fairbanks. I was on the waitlist for funding. Hope it helps someone out.
Congrats to the recent maelstrom of acceptees.
Notre Dame reject too!
Thanks Zoulou! =)
@Dry Leaves
How many schools are you waiting to hear from and where do you think you'll be in the Fall?
-nonfiction Courtney
I received official rejections from University of Arizona and Colorado State via mail yesterday. Looks like I'm applying again next year; I've been rejected to all other schools (still waiting to hear from Oregon and San Diego State). Good luck, everyone.
@Jillian Lauren - Don't see this button.
hey, i can't remember if it was here or at DH, but someone posted a note that no word from Notre Dame could mean waitlist - they had called to check status and that's the news they go. i just called them and i was also informed i was on the waitlist (and also informed that despite being 'pretty high up there on the list' that the list was long enough that she wasn't going to count it for me, there are 5 spots for prose, and i should probably go ahead and accept the best offer i've gotten). she ALSO said she put the waitlist notices in the mail yesterday, so i wouldn't necessarily recommend slamming them with phone calls - notice should be on the way.
also finally got my indiana rejection letter. holla!
@ (nonfiction) Courtney -
Well, I've received replies from all my schools.
How about you?
@Dry Leaves
So sorry to hear about your mom. Family is important; the MFA can wait.
Hopefully one (or more) of your schools will let you defer so that you won't ever have to go through this crazy process again!
also called florida and was told to check my application status online - got as far as the 'Return to Check Status/Update/Add New Recommendation' button and then it says i can 'review/print' my application (or pay the app fee again...no thanks) - but i can't figure out where the app status is. anyone?
Okay, this is lame. Apparently Notre Dame hasn't updated my online status.
@klairkwilty - maybe you're on the waitlist? All these schools have exhibited varying degrees of incompetence re. communication with applicants. You'd think with ND's resources, they'd have a supercharged bells-n-whistles online notification system.
I just want to let you all know that I've turned down my spot at Montana. I had a TAship too, so heads up to anyone on line for one of those!
I hope one of you all snatch this up! It's a great program.
Good luck to everyone today!
I'd think that might be a sign of the waitlist, too, if they're snailmailin' WL notifications like ann says. Doesn't explain the email you received, though.
@Woon - Well, I called them yesterday and they said I wasn't on any list. Who knows.
Should have known better than to assume I wouldn't need to direct my comment. Two people posted between us. That was @klairkwilty re: woon's comment.
@Emma - So, what does that leave you with? Florida offer and Iowa waitlist? Is there another school in the mix or are you just waiting on Virginia?
klairkwilty -
Did you scroll all the way to the bottom? The link is quite small at the bottom of the app status screen.
Good luck!
I hear Notre Dame admits are personally notified by the Touchdown Jesus.
@Dry Leaves, I'm so sorry about your mom. Family definitely comes first; I would do the same as you were I in your position. All my best wishes for your mom's health.
@ Woon
Yes, it's either UF or UVA. I'm going to wait it out. I would be thrilled to go to either of these programs. And I think I know who you're rooting for...
@Emma - Heheh...
hey guys,
I don't feel like reading back through all the posts from the last few days, so here is my situation:
I got a similar GNE from UNCG two weeks ago and haven't heard anything since.
Other people in that boat? What do you guys think that means?
@ Shaving & Morgan,
Why are you assuming rejection from University of Washington?
Lucas,
I got one a month ago and haven't heard anything.
UNCG has a history of a long drawn-out process, which in the past, appears to have had to deal with getting funding squared away for everyone. So it could mean that's what's happening.
Or, it could mean they sent out more GNEs than they have spots, I suppose.
The GNE asked if had questions and I responded with a couple and haven't heard back on that...which I understand as they are busy, but still kinda weird, you know...
klairkwilty -
That's ridiculous! I didn't even receive the email you did, but my status is updated (rejection). They deserve a call or email!
Hopefully it means your status is more positive than mine!
Best,
J. Haley
NC is still nice though.
the gne said (in abbreviated form) "solid marks" and "thought you might have questions"...short and to the point...is that the gne others got?
KarinR,
I'm in poetry, and the first acceptance was quite a while ago. That said, the last time I talked to the dept., which was maybe almost two weeks ago, they said they weren't nearly finished. Still, they only accept so many poets... I'm just trying to be realistic about how long I can hold out hope.
Lucas--
Not that exact wording, but similar, yes.
Just got rejected from the Stegner grants by email.
did you (or anyone else) ask questions and get a response? I feel like a little kid asking all of this, but I gotta tell my wife something when she gets home...
University of New Mexico wants me to know that summer courses at their school are a great way to make progress on my degree!
Except they rejected me like a month ago. Laaame.
Congrats to those receiving good news! ASU, Columbia...nice.
@hilary
re: Touchdown Jesus
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
I think klairkwilty deserves a call from Touchdown Jesus right about now to explain this blunder of the fake-out email.
@Lucas - re. "gotta tell my wife something when she gets home..." ROFL! This reminds of a GRE word I studied via flashcards: UXORIOUS. Never forgot it. Unfortunately, it never showed up on the exam.
@CHelsea
Phone call from SFSU yesterday. In for fiction.
@Lucas
Haha, I understand. There was a discussion a few weeks ago. A few of us got an initial response with a promise for further information, but that never came through. Really not sure what's going on.
@ K, Lucas,
Fiction or poetry?
hi emma,
congratulations on (basically) deciding. you've probably said this before, but would you mind reminding me if you are poetry or fiction? i am hoping for a ta-ship at montana.
Austin,
Fiction.
@ink - Emma is fiction. De nada.
weird...so, like, are they done? has anyone asked?
oh, and fiction...sorry
@ Lucas
I got a call from Jim Clark at UNCG yesterday, and I don't think they're done. Just the impression I got, for whatever it's worth.
re: woon
haha. Yeah...I was really just saying that...it's me that wants to know. She'll be all like "I'm sure you will still get in" and I'll be like "KNOCK ON WOOD, WOMAN!"...and then she'll be like "Don't call me 'woman'!" and I'll be like "sorry, boss."
re: emma
Nice to hear. Thanks.
Well, it's 1:15 PM. I'm going for a 4-mile run. Then, lunch at El Pollo Loco.
I dunno...I think I'm gonna go put on a gray outfit and lie down on the street. Thanks for the info and best of luck to all.
Hi everyone,
I forgot who kindly congratulated and also posed the question to me about San Fran State (sorry I'm lost in the comments here!) but no, I did not apply for any special type of funding or scholarship, they just offered that I was applicable for a Provost's Scholarship which would reduce everything to in-state costs and that if I would go to San Fran State if offered the scholarship, please let them know immediately.
Accepted w. funding
SFSU
Waitlisted
NYU
Brooklyn
in Fiction. And I'm thinking I won't dignify my rejections with a mention...hehe.
-One of the Ks
Are you in Chicago, Woon? Are we neighbors?
@Ratliff, I agree. Maybe I'll put it into my novel about klairkwilty and Lorrie Moore. That shit WILL sell.
UNCG PEOPLE: I just turned down my spot, so I hope it opens up for one of you.
Good luck all.
Nevermind, Woon, nevermind. I didn't follow the time clues to realize it's 3:15 in Chicago. However: there is an El Pollo Loco three blocks from me.
@K: When did you hear from Brooklyn? I haven't heard a peep from them.
Received a rejection today via snail mail from Warren Wilson in poetry.
Just found it. @Daniel, my above SF State info is for you!
In Fiction and they are calling right now.
How is your application season going?
-One of the Ks.
Very nice!
Again: Bah!!!!
Anyone still waiting on ASU fiction?
By the way, I just ate about 3,000 jelly bellies. I apologize for my sugar high.
Anyone still waiting on ASU fiction?
@ Otkuda
I was emailed on Tuesday afternoon, and before then had heard that ALL waitlists and acceptances would be contacted by early next week at the LATEST.
Hope this helps, hang in there!
-One of the Ks
This is the last time I post this, I promise, but has anyone else been accepted to Baltimore?
@hilary- I'm already in line for the film adaptation starring Andie Macdowell and Sean Patrick Flanery, though I know it'll never be as good as the book.
Augh, Arizona letter today too.
That makes today my all-time rejection high with three: UA, GMU, LSU.
Yay Friday.
I don't even want to check my Florida status.
So how about UNCG-poetry? WTF?
Received rejections via mail this morning from Univ of Arizona and CCA. The CCA letter was particularly obnoxious with something along the lines of "more experience and training will make you a more attractive candidate." Um, hello? I've been a full-time journalist for five years now. It's not like I just crawled out of a bar and decided to start writing. Anyway, my results so far:
Accepted
Otis College (with funding)
The New School (with funding)
Rejected
Univ Arizona
CCA
Univ Oregon (assumed)
Portland (assumed)
Waiting
ASU
OSU
SFSU
CalArts
Mills
Saint Mary's
On Alabama
@Wee Meathead
Congrats on Michigan! I applied to their fiction program as well and didn't get in. :]
@phillywriter
I hope you are on the waiting list - sometimes no news is good news.
@Gena
I wonder how many people have taken acceptances at their program already? Robin Behn did say the waiting list was "small" in her email but "small" is relative?!
@Austin
Sharing your pain. Oh so badly :[
@ gena and/or laura and/or any other florida applicant - if you do check yr status, can you tell me if you actually manage to FIND your status, and where?
I've checked the Florida application status and it doesn't say anything about my status. There is this though:
"If you have questions regarding your graduate application status or admission decision, please contact your department directly."
@ann
haha. I emailed last week and they said that we could start checking on Friday.
Ali - I got into UNO for Fiction. They have yet to allocate the assistantships. I found out via email yesterday and coincidentally recieved their official letter today.
I suggest you email them. Best of luck.
@ Dry Leaves
I'm so sorry to hear about your Mom. I 100% believe being with your family and deferring for a year is the right decision. I hope everything works out for you in the very best way possible.
I'm also sitting with 3 acceptances, 2 waitlists and waiting to hear from 4 schools, but I think that regardless of what the schools I'm waiting on say, aside from an outrageous funding offer, I'll be at Sarah Lawrence next year. It just seems like the right program for me at this time.
Post when you know how things are going to shake out.
@k
Are you planning on attending SFSU?
If I get a rejection from Irvine, which I'm sure I will, then I will most likely accept the offer at SFSU.
@ The Dime
Hooooray (sigh)
also, re: notre dame's communication skills
I found out I was on the waitlist by breaking down and calling them about a week and a half ago. the woman seemed mildly irritated until I told her I was in poetry, and then she was like "oh! I have that list!" and told me the deal. I think they're going to call waitlisters as spots open up, so as not to give people false hope?
I also have absolutely no idea how to check my app status there. do you log in to the appyourself page, or is there some other page somewhere?
Just turned down my fiction spot at Notre Dame. Fingers crossed for those on the wait list.
@xavier - f*** 'em if they can't write a halfway decent letter.
Where are you guys seeing the Notre Dame status? I'm completely lost.
Trilbe,
: )
@ Perpetua
Was that UNO low-residency? (Candidly I do not know if they have another program or not).
Ali - No it was not the low-res programme. UNO has a regular MFA degree called the Creative Writing Workshop.
My Florida status seems to be a page with my name and ID that says I applied. I can't figure out where to go. Anyone?
Waitlist email from Notre Dame. I'll miss Charlie Weis, that bloke.
Tally so far:
Accepted: Colorado State
Waitlist: Florida, Notre Dame
Only rejection that hurt: Johns Hopkins
@Trilbe, congratulations and I am not in the least bit surprised. I saw Lucie Brock-Broido read a few years ago, and she was wonderful.
@Ratliff, YES. EFFING YES.
Finally received my UoA rejection letter. TOOK THEM LONG ENOUGH.
@hillary - You so crazy.
@@Ratliff - Touchdown Jesus called. He said I'm not a "real" Cataholic. I said, "But I love cats." He said, "Shut the fuck up when I'm talking at you."
Touchdown Jesus is all pissy now.
@Trilbe--
You're killing it, girl!
@ DigAPony - Re: New Mexico. That is horrible. I hate them even more now.
@ Those who responded re: My mom's health & possible deferment. Thank you for your kind words and understanding. I don't like to make chat-room smiley faces but I will make an exception in this case --> :)
Rejected from Notre Dame via robot letter! I'm only a little offended because I was waitlisted last year.
--Fiction C
Courtney-
What do you mean by robot letter? An email?
I'm becoming neurotic here.
March 6, 2009 3:09 AM"
:]
Hobbledehoy--
From v1ctorya's year-old keyboard imprints to God's ears. Tuscaloosa or bust!
Ps, if you (or anyone else thinking about attending Bama) want to rant about Bama waitlist obsessing/attending with me, send me a line at g.scholastica at gmail dot com.
Has anyone heard from Mills or Saint Mary's College?
Either I'm blind or my ND status isn't ready yet. I can't find anything that says anything about a decision. Maybe they decided not to bother with me.
@Alyssa
It's possible you've been waitlisted, as those notifications are said to be arriving via the snailest of mails.
@DigAPony
I got the same UNM email. Rawr!
Oh my God.
awesome hilary!! congrats girl!!
@ Trilbe and hilary (et al) - wow on Columbia! That's great! What a way to start a weekend...
@hillary - Good job. Now you'll have time to write that damn book about me.
I'm on it.
@morgan, klairkwilty, and Dry Leaves, thank you so much :)
@Trilbe - Good job to you too. I just saw your acceptance. Sorry.
Finally got my Irvine letter. It was a rejection obviously. It didn't hurt as much as I thought it would. The letter was nice and signed by Ron Carlson, who was the reason why I wanted to go there.
I did, however, get a very fancy acceptance package from CalArts.
@ laura: You didn't imagine it; the status just isn't posted as it should be. Maybe it's a great opportunity for perpetuating hope (delusion)?

OMG thanks Jimmy James. I definitely don't have that on my application. I'm not blind just waiting, waiting, waiting...
You know what's disappointing? When the only school you have been accepted to sends you an admissions packet to a writing program that has grammatical errors in it.
Come on people!!

@Jimmy James - Thank you for doing that. Oh my, I was really getting stressed about it.
That link doesn't exist at the bottom of my screen. Those screwy ND mother$%#^@&#!
Did anyone else get the email from UCR regarding an open house?
"You know what's disappointing? When the only school you have been accepted to sends you an admissions packet to a writing program that has grammatical errors in it."
What kind of writing program has grammatical errors in it?
Sorry. I'm just teasing. But I had to.
Sam-
I didn't.
Also, I'm pretty sure we know each other. Were you in Yates' workshop?
@klairkwilty
oh ha. ha. ha. :) looks like we might be a good match, huh?
I was. Which Alyssa is this? There were two if I remember correctly. Did you apply for fiction as well?
Nevermind, I clicked on your name and all(your last name) was illuminated. Have you heard anything from them at all?
I don't remember if there were two, but yeah I applied in fiction. Where have you applied?
Notre Dame and UCR are my last two that I haven't heard results from.
Where did you apply?
I applied to UCSD, UCI, and Syracuse (all rejected), USF (accepted), The New School and NYU (waitlisted) and Notre Dame and UCR (painful silence).
@UCR folks
Apparently if we don't hear word by the end of this week, we could be waiting until April 15th. At least, that's what I was told when I called last week.
@xavier
got a fairly nice rejection letter from saint mary's about 3-4 days ago.
Alyssa-
Congratulation on USF! Also, those are some impressive waitlists you got yourself onto. Where will you be ideally?
I'm going to add you on facebook so we can continue this conversation away from the thread.
CONGRATS to all the acceptances! You guys are killing it this season!
Hey, coming back from my slumber momentarily :D
@ND - my status hasn't changed and I was told that I was rejected, so I'm assuming they haven't updated some accounts. And boo on them for rejecting Fiction Courtney and Klair :( And me... here's to next year???
@Florida - has anyone else's online page changed but without indicating an admissions decision? Mine went from listing my transcripts to just my contact information. I'm a little confused...
Congrats to Madeline Stevens and alyssa!
I am sending my very, very best vibes out to everyone still waiting. I have faith in you all!
@kaybay - I just noticed the same thing with my Florida status. No clue.
I have been lurking here for several months now, too paranoid to post early in the season. I have read every single comment for the last three or four months, though. I know awhile back, people were looking for blogs to read as distractions.
I wanted to share my blog, which deals with the issues of trying to make it as a writer (both as a novelist, and in Hollywood):
http://www.halfcute.com
Congratulations to everyone!
I *think* I got a yes from UC Riverside today...
Yes's from CCA, and UCR.
No word yet from Hunter or Hollins...
@ Morgan
I hadn't realized that you applied in poetry (I usually lurk, and don't read every comment). Good luck anyway.
SFSU people:
@Rosanna
I received a phone call admitting me into SF State's MFA Program (fiction) on Wednesday, and a welcoming email late today. I did not receive any financial aid information.
Maybe call the program and find out?
Best of luck!
@Wee Meathead,
Another Michigan alum chiming in here.
Best of luck.
@Wee Meathead...
Guess I should have read further down the mailbag before tapping away a response. Mike and Woon were all over A2. They covered it well.
Happy weekend, everyone! :) Big congrats to all the Columbians. :)
@ Matt,
Could you tell me what region you're located in? I'm wondering when the letters might have gone out. And ... congrats! Glad Miami has finally gotten things started.
Hi Jen, I'm in Washington, D.C. Hope you hear good news.
Has Antioch handed out acceptances??
@Rosanna
I received the same e-mail today about my own financial aid from SFSU, and I haven't received any kind of acceptance yet. I am just as confused as you.
@xavier
I guess it's probably just some generic email for people who filled out FAFSA. But I emailed them a couple hours ago, just to be sure. Hopefully they'll get back to me monday or so. I'll let you know when (if) they do.
@Laura (and anyone else in at GMU)
I just received my acceptance there and would love to hear your thoughts about the program! You can email me at erkenbka at gmail dot com.
Congrats to everyone who received good news today!
Ahh!
Losing my mind and resorting to horrible chick flicks interspersed with Tolstoy,
Rachel
Ahahahahahaaaaaaaa!
Poetry updates:
Finally got the Hunter rejection via email last week.
Status for Brooklyn on the website still "under review" - how much was that application fee again? lol
Nada from Queens College...
Interview for a kinda TA at LIU Brooklyn next week, also in at New Mexico State, California College of the Arts says my Financial Aid letter will be coming soon - you think it'll cover the 40,000/yr? *fingers crossed* haha
@Xavier
@Rosanna
A friend of mine who applied to the psychology masters also got an email about being accepted for financial aid, but she hasn't been accepted into the program yet. No clue on whether or not this indicates you've been accepted, but just to let you know this is happening to all SFSU students who applied for aid.
@ Matt,
Thanks a lot! But if Miami used my updated address, then it is not looking good for me. :( I'll steel myself for next week....
ke105--I'm a first year fiction student at GMU. You can email me (email's on my profile) with any questions, if you want. I love the program!
Hello all,
I've been lurking on and off, and I'm now looking for insights.
I applied to ASU and I haven't heard anything. I've made a few assumptions from the posts that I've read.
First, the rejection emails went out early this week
The folks top on the accept list were called wednesday.
I've decided on SIUC (for fiction). Go Salukis!
Great, great town.
@Trilbe wow congrats, you collect MFA acceptances as if you are shopping for fruits ....your basket must be brimming:))) That's such an achievement!
@Congrats to all others accepted recently.
@Dry leaves
I hope and pray your mother gets better soon.Don't worry.
Everyone--congratulations on all of the good news. I'm still in limbo (as are some others, nice group,really) for Pacific, WW, and Bennington.
@Dry Leaves-so sorry to hear about your mom, be sure to send her all the good vibes from the blog!
@Julie
Did Columbia tell you about funding over the phone? I just got a voicemail and now must wait until Monday to ask any questions...going crazy...
Thanks.
@Clayton - I'm in the same boat regarding ASU. If you find anything out, let me know!
Hannah, will do.
@ Clayton and Hannah
(Although my pessimistic [realistic?] tendencies say no... sigh)
@ ASUers
I'm in the same situation and also e-mailed the department yesterday. I'll let you know if I hear anything...
@Madeline
Meredith,
I've checked my MyASU account and it states app is in Review.
-Fiction Courtney
clayton/meredith--
they take five. And they were on Spring Break this week! When I talked to Pete Turchi, it sounded like Karla Elling was out of the office until Monday--don't lose hope!!!
-Fiction Courtney
Clayton,
I think it's 5? Some ridiculously small number. I think you're right -- they definitely have notified the acceptances, but unless they have one longgggg waitlist, they may just not have gotten around to updating us on where we stand yet. I agree, everything points to waitlist, except there are already 4 people on this blog in the past... what, the past hour? who are in the same boat. Logic says, therefore, that there are probably many more people out there in our boat too. Maybe they do have a gigantic waitlist? Hey, I'll take that!! AGAIN, I really, really hope you are correct!!
*make that five in fiction! Not sure about the poetry side!
