What Are Programs Telling You? (Feb. 12)
If you get information from a program that is unavailable elsewhere and is something other than an admissions decision, feel free to post it here. For instance, if a program tells you how many applicants they had, or how many assistantships they're offering, or what their acceptance rate is, or what their "yield" is, you can add to our communal stock of data by letting others know. I don't know if this is unavailable elsewhere, but California State San Bernardino sent me an e-mail letting me know that they will let us know their decisions by late April. Anyone who applied here probably received the same e-mail but this seems a little late in the game to be notifying for admissions, no?
I believe at this point they are telling me "no." "Nooooooo..." Followed by uproarious laughter, of course.
I just contacted Wyoming about nonfiction acceptances. The nice folks there were gracious enough to tell me that "we are not finished with our acceptance notifications in all three genres" (I think that means more acceptances are coming in each genre, but I'm not sure), and "waitlist notifications will begin later this week and be completed by next Monday." Rejection letters will go out next week.
I hope that helps somebody--it keeps a faint hope of an acceptance in CNF alive for me.

I don't know if this is the kind of data worth collecting, but WashU will be offering third-year support for four of their MFA students - two fellowships and two junior writer-in-residence positions, divided evenly between poetry and fiction. Both involve teaching 3 or 4 classes a year and carry a similar stipend to WashU's MFA funding (16,000-20,000/yr is the estimate).

I don't have the exact numbers for Alabama right now, but they offer more money than you have listed in the funding rankings. It's between 12,000 and 13,000 the first year, then more in subsequent years, plus they have a couple of 15,000 fellowships, and some 6,000 topping up fellowships.
hey jdubs, i'm at bama and i don't think there's an increase in money after the first year. but there are a few fellowships available.
Oh, my bad Brandi. I may have misread the email. It said the first year is a research assistantship, the subsequent years are graduate teaching assistantships, and "The compensation for that position is slightly higher than that of the RA position."?
P.S. How do you like 'bama? I get more excited about it every day.
Mine responses so far are both rejections. LSU said they had not just lots of applications, but lots of good ones. I don't know if that's just part of their standard fair to make us rejects feel better or if there really has been an upsurge in numbers of applicants. (Given the economy, I wouldn't be surprised that many schools got an increase across the board as people seek career changes and the like.)

I've been in contact with BGSU and this year they said that they had 160ish (I've heard both 164 and 169, so 160ish) applications for their 5 fiction spots.

Yeah the current funding package at Alabama is 12,800 for graduate teaching assistantships, plus quite a few people get addition funding of some kind or other.
