Spill. Tell me all the things. Have they told you anything about funding?
I reallyreallyreallyreallllyyyy want to go to Temple, and I LOVE Brian Teare (both as a poet and a human), but I am from the far away land that is Idaho. The move to Philly, out-of-state tuition, and the jump in cost of living might put me into the zone of abject poverty.
Congratulations to you too, and I hope I have the chance to meet you in person!
Montana notified by phone. A friend also received an email, but I haven't.
@ Nair:
My situation heavily depends on funding. If I receive full funding from Hollins and Montana, I'll likely choose Montana. If I get off the wait list at Wyoming, I'll likely choose Wyoming. That said, Hollins is much more local for me, and situations can change, so take all this with a grain of salt. I'd hate to get your hopes up for nothing.
@GodWilling:
Yes, Chapman University. Richard Bausch is a big draw for me. Love his fiction.
One last thing from yesterday's conversation: at some point the point was made that one critical reason to do an MFA is to become a writer, actually sell books, actually deposit checks into a growing account. Instead of repeating the well-worn-out rhetoric that so very few writers actually make a living writing, I offer this: I already am a writer. I want an MFA because it sounds like a hell of a lot of fun. I love school. I love sharing ideas in the flesh, encouraging other writers and myself. It's not too complicated for me.
And while I'm busy getting turned down by the finest MFAs in allllll the land, I remember that I can apply again if I so choose, or I can fly to Ireland, or play Jenga, or dance to Janet, Miss Jackson if you're nasty.
To help with the sting of rejection, we are in good company. From the grad cafe today:
Ohio State University Poetry, MFA (F13) Rejected via Website on 7 Mar 2013 A 7 Mar 2013
0 for 7 for me...lots of publications, Pushcart nominee, Academy of American Poets Award...thought I was a reasonable candidate for these programs but I suppose not.
City University in NYC has seemingly extended the application deadline for the CW MFA until May - I could be reading it wrong - So does that mean we are all waiting until then for final decisions? Any comments, knowledge or corrections from y'all?
I got a call from Columbia yesterday morning. I'm not sure about the time frame for making calls, but I wasn't asked to interview, just accepted (for nonfiction).
Thanks to everyone for all the info! And congrats Sophie on the acceptance at Columbia! I applied there for fiction and have not heard anything. Does anyone know if Nonfiction/Fiction would be on the same time frame?
@Jasmine Evans- I was wondering the same thing. The graduate school website says they started sending out decisions on March 1. Maybe it's via snail mail?
If you haven't heard from McNeese, you didn't get into the program. I called John Griswold. He finally returned my call. All acceptances have been sent and people have accepted and filled any open positions.

Hi y'all! I've been accepted to U of New Mexico Las Cruces and UNCW!
Buuuut, Las Cruces has yet to offer me funding and UNCW is having me apply for an online assistantship.
What are y'alls thoughts going unfunded? Is it worth my time if I'm not getting teaching experience? Is it worth my time if i'm taking out loans?
Help!
Simple, back up a page for beta on your questions.
Not expecting to hear much during AWP.

Anyone heard from Columbia university?do they give interviews before admission?
Columbia university is the only university I applied this year.... Now I check my emails every few hours expecting some answer...
@Yang

Good luck!
Congratulations Sophie! And thank you so much for the update: ) That helps a lot!
Does anyone know when Mills College (in Oakland) typically sends out decisions?
Thanks to everyone for all the info! And congrats Sophie on the acceptance at Columbia! I applied there for fiction and have not heard anything. Does anyone know if Nonfiction/Fiction would be on the same time frame?
Queens College NYC? The New School?
No Syracuse for me, guys. Just not a minute ago received an email with a rejection letter.
Ditto, got a no from Syracuse for fiction just now.
@Jasmine Evans- I was wondering the same thing. The graduate school website says they started sending out decisions on March 1. Maybe it's via snail mail?
Thanks, Alex! But those weren't my credentials, they were the person's who posted the OSU rejection.
Let's all keep our chins up! It's snowing here, and so beautiful.
@Jasmine, I spoke to someone from Mills yesterday and they told me to expect to hear the last week of March!
If you haven't heard from McNeese, you didn't get into the program. I called John Griswold. He finally returned my call. All acceptances have been sent and people have accepted and filled any open positions.
Thank you. This worked perfectly. =]
