Bewildered in Brooklyn is 0 for 3 on the applications so far and asks: “Can bad undergraduate grades be reason enough for MFA programs to reject an applicant?” and “Given this, do you think I should reapply for next year?”
I’ve heard that you need a 3.0 to get into the Irvine program, BiB. I don’t know if other programs have similar policies. I guess it depends on what you mean by bad grades. In any case, if they are extremely low, I’d mention this in your personal statement, say why they were low, and explain why you’re better prepared for school this time around. And yes, I do think you should apply. Your list was only five long, and they were some of the very top schools. Go with more next time. I wish you the best with it.
