Applications/Acceptances/Waitlists/Rejections

Now that all those applications are done, it's time to sit back, relax, drink a glass of wine....yeah, OK, we know.  But in between excessively checking your email/mailbox and panicking over never-before-seen typos, we thought you might take this opportunity to share with your fellow applicants your list of programs, and then, as the news comes in, your list of acceptances and....that other thing we won't talk about.  Comment away!

Word. Thanks, Woah

So, this isn't MFA related, but it certainly helps me cope with the notification process. I had a story picked up for publication yesterday by REAL: Regarding Arts & Letters. It's my first print publication, though unfortunately I wrote the story after my applications were all submitted. At any rate, woo hoo.

Congrats! That should definitely keep you optimistic through notification season and beyond, no matter the outcome. Very exciting! So nice when your work finally reaches its audience.

Just got a call from Michael Martone. It went to vm and I haven't called back yet. VERY NERVOUS!

Congrats on the pub!

Fiction, Alabama called today: Accepted. I'm 3/3 so far (VA Tech, Ole Miss, Alabama). I have no idea why the hell I didn't apply to Cornell, Syracuse, Iowa, Michigan. I figure I'd get shot down, confidence problem. But I am not going to complain about any of these three, I'll tell you that much.

Wait listed at uiuc - fiction ... Very late at night

K. Jones, no offense, but Michigan, Iowa, Cornell, and Syracuse have considerably more ridiculous selectivity rates... not to rain on your parade. Those are some great schools you have to choose from.

We've made it to double digits in February people! Good luck this week!

@K, how were you notified, if you don't mind me asking?

K said...

Brooks, I got a very nice email from Alex Shakar. I bet he'll be calling accepted students today, as no one seemed to have gotten an acceptance yesterday.

I had happily given up hope this year but now I'll be biting my fingernails till April most likely. Still, I'm thrilled to even be on the radar.

@ Percent No offense taken, no worries! Thanks. The selectivity rates are higher at those other schools? I had no idea. When I said I didn't apply to them due to a lack of confidence and fear of being shot down, I thought it was apples-apples I was talking!

Good luck to everyone, don't freak out too hard!

magNcheese said...

Whenever statements are prefaced by "no offense," their content is usually not benign.

Kholera, I'm in at Alabama too. Congratulations!

letters said...

Fair enough magncheese, take away the no offense... only meant to point out facts, not take away from the obvious achievement for 3/3 fully funded programs!

Kholera Jones- Were you a phase 2 ole miss-er or have you been accepted? Just asking because I also am a phase 2 person and am curious about what happens now.
Congratulations to you and the other Alabama people! Can't say I wasn't disappointed to miss a call from Michael Martone! How fun!
I think Vanderbilt and Wyoming could be my next two schools to hear back from.
My hope is to have at least one acceptance with full funding, but man, I'd be real happy to be able to choose between two. You know?

Unknown said...

Kholera, are these official acceptances from UM and VA tech, or phase 2/interview? Considering your record, I'd be willing to bet the smart money is on you at both, but have they actually made offers yet? Also, CONGRATS!!!

@prairiescarie, any news re. whether the vanderbilt acceptance was poetry or fiction?

Woahthere! said...

Prairiecarie my first reaction to your post was ohhhhhhhhhhhh nooooooooo. Lol. But oh well. Like I said: next year.

prairiescarie said...

Fiction. I knew it was a long shot, but it was still my dream choice. Happy for the person I know, but kind of wish all six of the chosen were strangers.

MFAMFA! said...

thank you so much for the info, @prairiescarie. I totally understand how you feel!

With Bama and Vandy, this week is shaping up to be a bit of a downer for me...

Sorry, Percent. Didn't mean to get so prickly. On edge, you know.

Anyone know when Uni. of Montana's fiction acceptances get sent out? It's the only school I applied to and my stomach is all in knots. Previous years seem to imply different things sooooo.... :)

Does anyone know when Uni. of Montana's fiction acceptances go out? Previous years seem to imply different things and it's the only program I applied to (I don't have the luxury of moving right now.) So... my stomach is in knots. Along with many others it seems :)

@Lindsay M. Dubler I got into Montana for Fiction a long time ago (checking in on this blog for a loved one who's applying this cycle) and they notified me at the beginning of March. I found out that I would not be getting a TA'ship in mid-April.

Hello all, first time fiction applicant:

Syracuse
U of Houston
U Colorado at Boulder
Colorado State
Ole Miss
U of Minnesota at Minneapolis
Arizona State

Haven't heard from anyone yet. Think my Ole Miss app may have been lost in the mail with this crazy weather we've been having in the Northeast. Originally planned to apply to more schools, but I figured I'd go with these guys and see what happens first.

Best of luck to everyone!

so all still quiet on the wyoming front? thought today would be the day...

Any definitive word on Vandy? Wondering if folks have posted on facebook.

prairiescarie said...

About Vanderbilt, the person I know isn't on the fb group. They only took 3 people for fiction and 3 for poetry. I'm really interested in when/if they send out wait list information. Still hoping. About Wyoming, I'm super antsy about them too.

all i do with extra time is reason how to deal with the fact that i am certainly rejected, have to be, will be, it's better to be prepared, i think--toxic mindset--at least for those schools i know should be notifying soon. so, uw this week. hope you're in higher spirits!

Unknown said...

Can't say I miss checking the comments in this blog and my email 450 times a day like I did last year. Good luck and sympathy to you all.

any word on uiuc other than the one waitlist?

Harper said...

Has anyone heard anything about UNC Greensboro? I have no idea when they send out and I would really like to know.

magNcheese said...

Harper, I believe UNC notified for fiction very early. I don't know about poetry.

Rob, no other news on UIUC fiction yet

Thank you magNcheese. I applied in fiction so I'm sad, but at least I know not to get my hopes up. Holding out for the ones I've got left I guess :\.

K said...

I know there's another feed up now, but posting this here as well. UIUC has sent out notifications via mail (at least in fiction) and they should reach people by the end of the week.

I applied to McNeese. Haven't heard anything yet.

Hi...first time on this blog...but I've considered American as well and I'm wondering what your U.G. degree was in? Congrats on getting on acceptance by the way. I guess I'm wondering if your acceptance was based more on your background or your personal statement? Just seeing how much hope I have!

Sarah said...

Hello, I'm a first time MFA applicant. Does anyone have an idea of approx how long the wait list for UT's New Writers is? I applied for poetry. Any ideas from years past?

Thanks, Sarah

Sarah said...

Also, I am still waiting on 6 of my ten to get back to me. Anyone else experiencing this? Is this a bad sign?
Schools were:
UNT-Denton (no)
UT New Writers- wait list
TX State SM- yes
University of Arizona Tuscon- ???
UCSD- ???
SDSU- ???
LSU- ???
Ole Miss- (mailed the app on the receive by date so not worried about that)
Vandy- ???
U of Miami- ???

for poetry programs. When do I start stalking?

I got into the CWMFA at the University of Houston for Nonfiction with full funding!

I applied for fiction. I have been accepted to four programs. Right now it is between two though.

-University of Baltimore
-Portland State University

Can anyone give me some advise? Does anyone know anything about these programs?

Theatre Geek said...

If you haven't heard from McNeese, you didn't get into the program. I called John Griswold. He finally returned my call. All acceptances have been sent and people have accepted and filled any open positions.

Anyone who applied in 2014 for the fall 2015 session? I can't see a new post to discuss the 2015 applications on this blog.
